The leaky tank

On Tuesday we did some maths. The problem was, There were 9608 litres of water in a large tank. The tank leaked and only 934 litres remain. How much water drained out of the tank? I worked this problem out by using subtraction and place value. The part I enjoyed was bragging to Ebony about how she was 600 away from the answer and I was 66 away from the answer, it was funny. The part I disliked was using place value because it was so confusing and I had no clue how to use it. The easy part was using subtraction because it was the best way to figure out the problem. There was no hard part. Here is how a worked it out.

9608 - 934= 8674 which means 8674 is how much leaked.
