For the past weeks we have been working on a scene from the book see ya Simon and we had to animate it using scratch jr, I did a scene from the cross country event. Here is a scene I recreated in the book see ya Simon.
The scene is about when Alex Wilson lets go of Simon and he falls down the hill.
Refugee simulator
On Wednesday we did this game called refugee simulator. We had 8 minutes to pack 15 things in two suit cases and move out of the country because of war and conflict. We answered 3 questions about this activity: How we felt, What did you learn and what was the game about. I had lots of fun doing this game because I got to do it with others but I also felt sad/bad because people got through this in real life. I learnt that people go through this in real life and you have to make hard decisions in a very short amount of time. This week we have been learning about migration and what migration means. We have been asking our whanau about tupuna or ancestors about who have migrated either internally or externally. I have learnt that my aunty moved to Aussie when her child was 1. This topic is also like going somewhere and looking at ancient pieces of work or ruins that were painted or created back in the days where chiefs co existed and makes you think if your family is part of the building of this or that thing. This helps my learning because I get to learn about my family and their history. I get to learn things I’ve never known before and it helps when someone asks where they were from and if they travelled/moved anywhere. It becomes change for the future because we the new generation have the power to speak our minds and tell the story of our family's history and migration. The topic is alright I much rather learn something else but overall it's good and I’ll get to learn about my family and where I am from. Here is a piece of my work.
Last term in Social studies we learnt about Waitangi and what really happened. It was fun to learn what really happened because I never knew what really happened. We watched 7 videos and had to find the answer for the question we had.
Something positive was that people believed in themselves and that's what everyone should do and follow what they believe. I liked how Te Ruki Kawati refused to sign the treaty because he believed it was the right thing to do because I agree with him. I found out what Kororareka was called back then. Kororareka or Russell back then was known as the hell hole of the pacific. This helps me because I get to learn about my ancestors history and what they did. Do you know how many people lived in Aotearoa around 1838-1840?? Well that's something you should search.
Today in English I did a word art about my speech that I will be doing next week. I had to find key words or words I used frequently and put them on word art, I will put a photo at the bottom to show what a word art looks like. The words I put in my word art were bullying, Cyber bullying, Issues and consequences. The app I used was wordart.com so go and check them out.
Hi my name is Mahuta and I am a student at Bay of Island college, I am a year nine student and 12 years old (turning 13). I like math's and English because there so fun and I also like ESM which is like a environmental thing that we do at school. We walk around school and plant plants so our school can look better and have more food. I have 6 siblings 3 are girls and 3 are boys. I have one cat and he’s a HOHA!!! I am kind of good at math's and I am good at sports. I like sports but not competitively because I play it for fun. I also like sleeping and I’m really good at it. My goals is just to get smarter and to have more fun at school. I’d also like to participate in school events or trips. I’m looking forward to food technology and getting to know more people. I am going to try do more swimming competitions and I want to play volleyball because it’s just such a fun game. My mum is definitely my biggest influencer she helps me with a lot of things and lets me do my own thing (as long as she's not angry with me.) And that’s me.
