Future planing

My understanding of career is: the path we take after school it is the job or occupation we strive to become when we are older. Careers guide us into who we want to become in the future. All of us have careers in our heads like me, my career choice is to be a marine biologist to help and learn about sea life. we all have aspirations and dreams and most of the time it is our careers.

My understanding of kotahitanga is: a unity of different people to help build our social skills and teamwork so we don't feel hindered to talk to others and be afraid. Kotahitanga helps us to get a better social life and understanding of how others communicate... kotahitana makes us a better person and better at being ourselves. It makes you do things that you would have never done before.

My understanding of Rangatiratanga is: many things but my understanding is it is leadership and how we can learn to lead and govern a group of people. Rangatiratanga is taking charge and thinking ahead to help and even save lives. This world need more rangatahi who will help lead the next generation, such as ours. We will be the rangatira who will help our future people.

These concepts relate to future planning how? All these concepts relate to the topic in many aways. One: these concepts help us and can lead/guide us into the future to come. Two: two of the words relate to Te Ao Maori and can teach us a lot about the past and how the word came to be. Three: these concepts have bigger and deeper meanings behind them and there not just simple words that you say without knowing the true meaning of the word/concept. These key concepts will definitely help us in our future and what we plan to do in the future, whether it is buying something to creating something new.

What did you learn during this topic? I have learnt a lot in this topic, I even learnt what I want to be when I am older and leave college. I learnt how to become a certain occupation and the dedication and work ethic it takes to be "that." We learnt about career choices, occupations, governments, businesses, interprice and much much more. Overall this topic was vital to learn about and helped me to what I wanna become in the future.

The real game

Last week we had to do a booklet called the real game. This booklet had various activities, one was "Kupe Rite" . In this activity we had to find the definition of a word and line them up, kind of like a word find but you have to find the definition. The second activity was we had to say if we believed these statements were true or false such as: "More men than women work part-time" we had to say in our own beliefs if we think it's true or false. There were many more activities that I would love to talk about but I don't wanna make this boring so I will tell you one of my favourite activities. My favourite activity was where we got to make our own dream holiday because we could invite whoever we wanted but they would have to pay for themselves lol. The holiday I chose to go on was to Australia, this is because I want to visit Aussie again because I did once when I was a kid.

Leadership and government

This term we have been learning/focusing on leadership and government and how these affect people and the space they live in. We have done many things around leadership and government, one being speeches. In our speech we had to talk about qualities of a leader or who is a leader and what makes one. Another thing we did was research about a New Zealand leader or a leader in general. While researching about our chosen leaders we had to answer a few questions about them and also write a essay about them. My chosen leader was Jacinda Adern the NZ prime minister, yes many may disagree with me but I have my own opinion and say on it. We also learnt about governments before 1840 and how it was established. I think I have learnt a lot about government in this unit and it really help me get a better understanding of how voting, seats, politics and everything to do with government works. Our final thing to do was write our understanding of 3 words Kawanatanga (government,) mana and tikanga, in our own words we had to write what that word meant to us or our understanding of it, we then had to relate it to this terms topic which was pretty easy because the words link to the topic perfectly. Here is a sneak at some of my work:

A leader is made not born, they're not picked there earned, they are not inherited there built, a leader,

what is it and who is one? To me being a leader is more than just being well known, a leader is someone

who shows compassion, creativity, leadership, the ability to communicate, empathy and be able

to influence. They work and help others no matter what the conditions, they use their skills and strengths

to give others the right mindset to help them grow mentally and physically.

Pancakes

Yesterday we made pancakes, I was  in a group of four and we worked very well. Because we were such a big group we doubled our ingredients which i think we did wrong because it ended up bring very buttery. Here is the ingredients/method we used and some photos...

  1. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl.
  2. In another bowl beat the eggs and sugar with a whisk until pale and thick.
  3. Add the egg mixture and the milk to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Gently heat a non-stick frying pan and drop large spoonfuls of the mixture from the point of the spoon onto the surface.
  5. When bubbles start to burst on the top of the pikelets, turn them over and cook the second side until golden. Place in a clean tea towel to keep warm until they are all ready to serve.

Mince chow mein

Yesterday we made a mince chew mein but things didn't go to plan because someone had taken our left over mince from when we had made burgers and we were running out of time so we had to rush things and go a bit fast. We had made a lot and people from other classes had some because we had to much. Here is a recipe and ingredients for our mince chew mein.

1 celery stalk sliced

2 carrots thinly sliced

1. Cook your noodles in a pot or pan

2. Cut your veggies

3. Brown your mince

4. Mix your soy sauce and cornflour

5. Then when your mince is browned add your veggies and sauces in

Patties

On Tuesday we made burgers but before that we had to pre-made our patties so on Monday we made our patties with mince, egg, bread crumbs and some added cheese. Then on Tuesday we pulled out the bbq and chucked our patties on the bbq and started frying. We had buns, cheese, salad and sauce but some of the ingredients we didn't have but we enjoyed it in the end. Unfortunately we have no photos and no recipe but here is one i found online.

  • Prepare all your ingredients before you begin. It is important to use mince from a cut of meat that has a little fat. This will not only add flavour, it also ensures a tender burger by preventing the patties from drying out during cooking. However, mince that is too fatty will expel the excess fat during cooking, causing the patties to shrink and toughen considerably. Topside is the recommended mince for making beef burgers as it contains the right amount of fat. Breadcrumbs] are not usually included in the traditional burger patty mixture, but their addition to this recipe helps to give the cooked patties a lighter, more tender texture. The egg acts as a binding ingredient so that the patties can be easily shaped. It also helps them hold together when cooked.
  • Place the beef mince

    Unsure of the quantity needed?

Click on the underlined ingredient to reveal the quantity. No need to flip back and forth!

breadcrumbseggparsleyoniongarlicWorcestershire sauce and Tabasco sauce in large bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Mix with your hands until evenly combined.
  • Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions (you can use a 125ml / 1/2 cup measuring cup if you like). Shape each portion with your hands into a patty about: 10cm in diameter and 1.5cm thick.
  • Place the patties onto a tray lined with- greaseproof paper. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to rest. Chilling the patties will help them hold together when cooked. This also allows the flavours in the patties to blend and develop. If you chill the patties for any longer, increase the cooking time slightly.
  • Heat half the olive oil in a large, non-stick frying pan over medium-low heat and cook half the patties for about 4 minutes on each side or until browned and cooked through. It is important to cook mince right through because it has a larger ratio of surface area to volume than whole pieces of meat, and is therefore at greater risk of contamination by bacteria in the air. Transfer the patties to a plate, set aside and keep warm. Repeat with the remaining oil and patties.
  • Meanwhile, preheat grill on high. Place the hamburger buns, cut-side up, under the preheated grill and toast for 1 minute or until golden, as desired. Leave the grill on. Place the patties on a baking tray lined with foil. Top patties with cheese. Place under the grill for 1 minute or until the cheese is just melted.
  • To serve, spread the bottom halves of the toasted hamburger buns with the American mustard. Top with the lettucesliced tomato, patties and dollop with tomato sauce. Cover with the hamburger bun tops.

Being globally minded

This term we have been learning about economics and the world and how things are traded and sold around the world. Here are the key concepts for this topic and there meanings.

Economy

Economy is a process of which money, goods and services are bought around the entire world,

all into a system of how money works in our/that country. Economy can also be used to help others in

need, that is why we ( people with jobs ) pay taxes. Taxes go to helping the earth such as roads and

more. It is also to help the government and finally to help people without a job or people who struggle

in life. All of these come under the economic system. So basically economy is money, goods and services

all into one.

Trade

Trading can be defined in many terms but this is the true or main meaning of trade.

Trade is an act of selling your items in exchange for another. So in other words trade is pretty much

exchanging items for items. Here is an example of trade: if I had a kit kat chocolate and

I wanted a hershey chocolate and my friend had a hershey, I would ask if they want to trade and if

they agree we would swap items or in this case chocolate. Other people like to trade online, in person

or through shipment. Trade can be done many ways but only you can make it happen.

Globalisation

Globalisation is everything sold around the world, everything that is bought and sold whether it's online or in person. Also globalisation is the process of markets across the world become more integrated thanks to the exchange of goods and services. The process of incrisingley interconnected because of massive increase trades throughout the world. The meaning of interconnected is mutually joined or related, so this pretty much means joining with others not only to trade but talk about economy and all globally things. In today's world we all live in a world were economic globalisation is cared about a lot and is more known to men/woman.

We’ve also been learning about exported products and what countries and places they get exported too.

This company I have chosen is NZAS. NZAS also known as the New Zealand Aluminium Smelters make

the NZ export product aluminium. This product was made in 1971 and is located in Tiwai in the south

island. This company makes aluminium and aluminium is great to keep food fresh, is easy to carry and is

totally not eatable.

9T English

Here is a  reflection on everything I have learned this year in English.

About me: This was the first thing we did in English this year. We had to write about ourselves talking about our siblings, hobbies and more. We also had to talk about who we admire and of course I wrote about my mum/mom.

Speeches: This year we had to write a speech. This speech had to be 2 minutes but a lot of us had ones that went over and under the time limit which was fine. We had three topics to chose from school/community problem, someone we admire and determination creates success and I went with a school problem.

Reading responses: It is now term 2 and we have moved on to reading responses we did a novel study and the book we did it about was see ya Simon. Simon a boy who is unable to do things normal human beings can do. That is a little brief of who Simon is. We also did a comic response, we picked one comic and wrote about it, like the main characters and things like that. Our final response was a short story which I don't remember much about.

Film study: In term 3 we had to learn about films and the different ways directors film there shots in movies. We also had to learn why they use that specific shot and how the director wanted the audience to see them as. After learning about all these shots we watched a movie and had to answer these questions about the movie like: what shots did they use, what the director wanted us to see and how the shot works.

Creative writing: Term 4 brought the last task of 9T English, creative writing. This term we have been learning about what verbs, adjectives and all those things are. We wrote creative sentences using verbs and adjectives etc, and whaea Annette had to look and make sure we had all the right things in our writings/sentences.

Easttle Writing test: At the start of the year we had an easttle writing test, this test was about something but I don't remember lol, but the end of year easttle test was about an environmental problem on the earth. We did that test just last week on Wednesday and had another period to do it on Friday.

Extra: Throughout the year we did different small warm ups such as word brick. For word brick we had to pick one word from a bunch of words and write the definition and a sentence using that specific word. Another little activity we did was SSR ( Silent sustained reading. ) This is were we read short little story's and answer the questions. We finally finished those SSR's today.

That is everything I have learnt and done in 9T English 2021.

NZ Export products blog

For the past week we have been researching export products in New Zealand and the companies that make those products. So I will reflect about my nz exported products mahi. We created a slide putting in a bunch of information. We had to find the top 10 nz export products and their worth. We also had to find the total worth of nz export products in the world for every year from 2018-2021. Another thing we had to do is pick one nz export product and research about it. The product I chose was aluminium and the company I chose was NZAS. In New Zealand it is used very frequently, it is bought lots and keeps food fresh. I got to learn more about my country and what products are bought the most, I also learnt where it is sold all over the world and trust me when I say this al ot of countries sell it. I also got a better understanding of how things are exported to other countries from NZ to around the world. Overall I think learning about this made me understand more about economy, products and how things are shipped to other countries, cities, towns etc. So I did learnt a lot from this topic and hope to do it again.

Jungle scene writing

Yesterday we had to write a descriptive piece of writing to do with a jungle scene or a photo of the jungle. We wrote two paragraphs and they had to involve at least 1 of each thing: a personification, a noun, alliteration,  a simile, metaphor, powerful adjectives and verbs/adverbs. Today I will  be sharing my story about a jungle scene, it is about a creature/me telling a story about a fog covering my forest... Here it is.

A thick ominous fog had surrounded the forest, spreading like wildfire the animals of the forest had scattered and hide in fear hoping something or someone would figure out what was going on. I’d hear stories about this kind of thing “once every 12 years a fog would surround a forest taking its animals and all living things within the forest” well at least that's what I heard. Others would say it's just a freezing cold storm coming or a day were the sun would shine brighter than it ever has, I didn't believe anything creatures would say since they had a habitat of lying…. A frog as green as the grass jumped towards the fog trying to get out but couldn't, he tried again and again and again but couldn't get out, it was like an invisible barrier stopping creatures from getting out.

A few minutes had past and the fog wouldn't leave it was here to stay. Someone had reached out to me offering a helping hand. This animal, this creature I had never seen opened his hands out to me and helped find out what was going on. We went around asking people how this had got here, they had no idea. If they didn't know what was going on how would we. My supposedly called friend had told me this had happened to his forest but I had so many questions like: how did he escape, where did the fog come from, all these rushing through my mind but i couldn't ask a single one, its like my mind was clouded and full of mysterious, did it have to do with the fog i guess I wouldn't know.“Its black magic”...

6 film shots

In English we have been learning about film techniques and why they would use that type of shot in the film/movie. We learnt about many types such as: panoramic shot, two person shot, high angle, low angle and lots lots more. Today I have created a poster about 6 film shots and why directors would use this type of shot. Here's my poster about what I have learnt about these six film techniques.

My holiday

Today I am blogging about what I did in the holidays and how they went. It was kinda boring and fun at the same time. W had to make a collage of photos about what we did in the holidays and we had to write a story with 350+ words. Here is my work.

My holiday was interesting, some parts were fun, some parts were boring but I really enjoyed sleeping in and staying up late at night because I never ever get to do that on a school night. On the first Saturday of my holiday I had volleyball practice at 12:00-3:00. I got ready and packed everything I needed but it wasn't much just my shoes and phone. My sister came along to watch  (But between us I really didn't want her to come) for obvious reasons such as embarrassment, annoyance and much more. The drive took 15 minutes however it felt so long. When I arrived 5 people had already arrived but two more people had yet to be seen. We started practicing our bumping and did a game called pepper. It's basically bumping then setting and then spiking and you keep repeating that process until the ball hits the ground. At last the remaining two people arrived and we started doing real training. We practice spiking, serving, setting, blocking and bumping all within the 3 hour time limit we had. When we had 20 minutes left of practice left we decided to have a game. It was 4 on 4 but it was a game of fun and a game to practice what we had learned today. Once the training had ended my legs were aching and I could barely walk, I sat down for a bit and waited for my brother to pick me up and as usual he was late. “  I’m not surprised there “ I said with a sarcastic tone. 10 minutes later he finally picked me up and we heard home. It was my aunt's last day in New Zealand before she went home so we had a family dinner for her. The next day she departed from my house and she went to Auckland to abored her flight so she could go home. I then went back to sleep and it was miraculous because I had a great dream. On the second to last day of my holiday we headed out to Whangarei to find a ball dress for my sister, unfortunately we didn't find anything but we went to McDonalds for dinner and it was great. So my holiday was interesting and full of surprising things.

End of migration blog

This term we have been learning about migration and the different terms of migration. We did things like riverbed, kupe, push and pull factors migration within my whanau and refugee simulator. Migration is all about moving, moving to a different city or country. No matter where you move or go, migration is always involved. A lot of people who migrate become refugees or democrats and times get hard for them. Place can be described as many things such as a: home or somewhere you move. A place is somewhere you feel safe, something that feels like home. A place can be a good and bad thing but only you can make it feel special. Change is something everyone goes through,if it's to do with your mental state, physical state or spiritual well being. Change can be you moving and  having to adapt to the new changes that this new place has. Migration is a key word within this concept because without migration you can't change or move or even go to new places. Place is somewhere you go or end up moving to when migrating. Change, change is the different things you do when you find new land or make new rules. Migration can be within me because I had to move schools and adapt to the new changes in this school had and all the different subjects I had to take. The topic also relates to the interactions I had with others and their experience they had when moving to this school. It challenged me by thinking about how migrating works and how it affects others and their way of thinking. It made me think about all the times people told me about their stories and how they've moved. By knowing the different words within migrating and how they help my thinking. It supports my learning by identifying if anyone else has gone through changes and if they've migrated. I can also help others know if they have migrated or not. My overall view on this topic was good. I can now reason with people now and they will understand where I’m coming from when I tell them about my story. So I think this topic was very good and I’d definitely do it again.

Balaclava story

We read this story about balaclavas and how a boy stole a balaclava and he felt guilty for stealing it. His mum ended up buying him a balaclava but he didn't know how to tell the boy that he stole his balaclava. So he didn't and the boy thought he had put the balaclava in his jacket but he didn't he put it in Norbets jacket. So we had to find key words in the story and make a word art. So here is mine

Own push and pull

Today I am reflecting on my own push and pull factor that we have been doing throughout the week. It's about situations that people have in life that make them move to a different country, town etc. Like if there's a war or conflict between countries then people might have to migrate or if they're getting kicked out of their house they'll have to find a new one but might have intervening obstacles. Intervening obstacles are things that stop them from moving like they might not have enough money or they'll miss their family and friends too much. So that's what it's about. I have learnt what a pull and push factor is and how they work when you are migrating or moving.A pull factor is something that's making them want to go to a different country and making them wanting to move and a push factor is something that's making them move, so if there was a war you have to move or if you get kicked out of your house you have to move.Thats what a  push factor is. An intervening object is something stopping them from moving, so if you didn't have enough money that would be an intervening object. This is also like the other push, pull and intervening obstacles thing we did. We had to read stories about people and write down the answers which were the push and pull things. But this time we had to write down our own story for our characters. It gives me a proper understanding on what refugees or anyone have to go through in life. And it helps me to understand what a push and pull factor is and what intervening objects are. This helps change the future of how you see things. It helps to change because we get to see how people do things when they migrate. They have things that make them want to go and things that make them go and then you have intervening objects that stop them in their tracks. So it changes the way you look at things and how they work. The topic was really fun. I really enjoyed it because I got to make up my own characters. My favourite was the time tracker because he had the ability to time travel.

See ya Simon scene

For the past weeks we have been working on a scene from the book see ya Simon and we had to animate it using scratch jr, I did a scene from the cross country event. Here is a scene I recreated in the book see ya Simon.

The scene is about when Alex Wilson lets go of Simon and he falls down the hill.

Keep your mouse here!!!!

Refugee simulater

 Refugee simulator

On Wednesday we did this game called refugee simulator. We had 8 minutes to pack 15 things in two suit cases and move out of the country because of war and conflict. We answered 3 questions about this activity: How we felt, What did you learn and what was the game about. I had lots of fun doing this game because I got to do it with others but I also felt sad/bad because people got through this in real life. I learnt that people go through this in real life and you have to make hard decisions in a very short amount of time. Also we had to find a article about a refugee in New Zealand so here is a site where you can find some:

Migration within our whanau

This week we have been learning about migration and what migration means. We have been asking our whanau about tupuna or ancestors about who have migrated either internally or externally. I have learnt that my aunty moved to Aussie when her child was 1. This topic is also like going somewhere and looking at ancient pieces of work or ruins that were painted or created back in the days where chiefs co existed and makes you think if your family is part of the building of this or that thing. This helps my learning because I get to learn about my family and their history. I get to learn things I’ve never known before and it helps when someone asks where they were from and if they travelled/moved anywhere. It becomes change for the future because we the new generation have the power to speak our minds and tell the story of our family's history and migration. The topic is alright I much rather learn something else but overall it's good and I’ll get to learn about my family and where I am from. Here is a piece of my work.

Waitangi what really happened

Last term in Social studies we learnt about Waitangi and what really happened. It was fun to learn what really happened because I never knew what really happened. We watched 7 videos and had to find the answer for the question we had.

Something positive was that people believed in themselves and that's what everyone should do and follow what they believe. I liked how Te Ruki Kawati refused to sign the treaty because he believed it was the right thing to do because I agree with him. I found out what Kororareka was called back then. Kororareka or Russell back then was known as the hell hole of the pacific. This helps me because I get to learn about my ancestors history and what they did. Do you know how many people lived in Aotearoa around 1838-1840?? Well that's something you should search.
