Your papa sounds like a very wise man. His advice for you reminds me of my favourite whakataukī . He is right, that you should always be honest. My grandma used to always say to me “being honest to yourself and others is they key to living your life to the fullest”. She thought no matter do not lie to yourself otherwise you will start believing your lies is the truth.
